Backyard Wildlife Alerts
Terms of Use
Last updated: October 9, 2026
By using Backyard Wildlife Alerts ("the app", "we") you agree to these terms.
Using the app
You can browse sightings and get alerts without an account. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app.
Accounts
You need an account to share, confirm, or report sightings. Keep your password private; you're responsible for activity on your account. Give us a real email address so you can reset your password. Your username is shown publicly on sightings you share, so don't use your real name if you'd rather stay anonymous. Usernames must not be offensive or impersonate anyone, including us; we may block or remove ones that are.
Community rules
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Don't post:
- nudity, sexual content, violence, gore, or hateful content;
- harassment, threats, or personal information about anyone (including phone numbers, emails, or anyone's exact home address);
- fake, joke, or test sightings, spam, ads, or links;
- photos or reports that encourage approaching, feeding, or harming wildlife.
Share only what you actually saw, as accurately as you can.
Reporting and moderation
Anyone signed in can report a sighting. Sightings that receive several reports are hidden automatically, and accounts whose sightings are repeatedly hidden are suspended. Photos are checked automatically before posting. We may remove any content or suspend any account that breaks these terms, at our discretion and without notice.
Not an emergency service
The app is not an emergency or public-safety service. If an animal is a threat to people or pets, call 911. Report injured or nuisance wildlife to your state wildlife agency.
Safety disclaimer
Sightings are community reports and are not verified. A sighting shows where an animal was seen, not where it is now. Never approach, feed, or follow wildlife. Alerts may be delayed or may not arrive; don't rely on the app for your safety.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and share it in the app and on our website so neighbors can see it. Only post photos you took or have the right to share.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms.
Disclaimers and liability
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any harm arising from your use of the app, including any encounter with wildlife or reliance on a sighting or alert.
Changes
We may update these terms. We'll change the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use the app means you accept the updated terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island.
